SkyTeam partners Aerolineas Argentinas and China Eastern are broadening their codeshare relationship to cover three additional long-haul routes operated by China Eastern: Shanghai Pudong–Auckland–Buenos Aires, Wenzhou–Madrid and Wenzhou–Rome. The expansion, disclosed on 22 September, will see AR flight numbers placed on the Chinese carrier’s services from mid-September and 1 October respectively. The tie-up gives Argentinian passengers a one-stop option to reach Mainland China via Oceania, and opens direct Wenzhou access to Southern Europe – a boon for the city’s large diaspora of garment and shoe traders in Spain and Italy. Conversely, Chinese SMEs in Zhejiang province gain through-ticketed connectivity to South America without relying on U.S. gateways, avoiding current U.S. transit-visa complexities. For corporate mobility planners, the expanded codeshare simplifies duty-of-care tracking: travellers remain on SkyTeam plates throughout the itinerary, allowing seamless re-booking in case of disruption. Frequent-flyer accrual is also streamlined, a non-trivial perk for project teams rotating between China and LatAm. The wider context is a gradual reopening of secondary Chinese cities to intercontinental traffic. As bilateral seat entitlements between China and the EU loosen, more airports like Wenzhou are courting foreign carriers and alliances. Firms with supply chains in Zhejiang and Jiangsu should watch for further Europe and Americas additions over the next IATA seasons.
