Austrian Airlines (OS) is leaning into a late-season demand surge by extending its summer schedule into the Austrian school autumn holidays (24–31 October) and adding roughly 100 extra rotations from Vienna. According to the business-travel specialist BTU, the move, announced on 24 September 2026, will mainly benefit leisure hotspots around the Mediterranean. Additional frequencies cover Spain (Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Alicante, Bilbao, Fuerteventura), Portugal’s Madeira (Funchal), Greece (Heraklion, Chania, Rhodes), Croatia (Split, Dubrovnik), France (Nice), and a raft of Italian cities, while Larnaca on Cyprus receives the single biggest capacity boost with 13 extra flights. Corporate mobility managers will welcome the decision to maintain warmer-weather leisure routes because it frees up connecting capacity and seats on core European business trunks in the busy pre-Christmas planning cycle. OS also confirmed that the forthcoming winter timetable will re-orient capacity toward long-haul Asia—Bangkok grows to double-daily in January–February and Maldives/Mauritius peak at seven weekly flights, using a Boeing 787-9 on Mauritius services—while temporarily trimming some North American frequencies. For travel buyers the key takeaway is to lock in group allotments quickly. Austrian’s dynamic pricing model means late-October fares traditionally spike; the extra seats will temper but not remove that pressure. Travel-policy managers should also note that a two-week gap remains between the extended summer program and the start of the carrier’s winter schedule on 25 October, so PNRs that stretch across seasons may require re-ticketing. On the operational side, Austrian plans to crew the extra Mediterranean flights with seasonal cabin staff already on fixed-term contracts, limiting overtime exposure. Ground-handling slots at Vienna International Airport (VIE) have been secured in the early-morning and late-evening waves, minimising impact on business-heavy mid-day banks. The airline says tickets for the additional services are already loaded in all GDSs and the NDC API, enabling TMCs to issue within standard corporate channels.
