Airport Show 2026 opens in Dubai, unveiling $35 billion expansion of Dubai World Central
His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the 25th edition of the Airport Show at Dubai World Trade Centre on 12 October, signalling renewed confidence in the UAE’s aviation growth story. The exhibition, which hosts more than 200 suppliers from 20 countries, showcased a full-scale mock-up of the planned 150-million-passenger terminal at Dubai World Central (DWC) and spotlighted technologies aimed at making airports more resilient to disruption. Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) executives confirmed that the DWC expansion—budgeted at US $35 billion—remains on track for phased completion from 2030, ultimately replacing Dubai International as the emirate’s primary hub. Key design features include biometric “walk-through” border-control gates, dedicated e-gates for transferable visas, and modular concourses that can be closed or reopened in response to security alerts or pandemics. During a panel discussion, industry leaders from IATA, British Aviation Group and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport agreed that rebuilding passenger confidence after crises takes longer than restoring physical operations. They called for airlines, airports and immigration authorities to share real-time data so passengers receive consistent information throughout their journey. For global-mobility and relocation planners, the DWC project promises greater long-haul connectivity, additional premium lounges and faster immigration processing—critical advantages for multinationals using Dubai as a regional headquarters. However, experts warned that the Gulf’s volatile security environment means contingency capacity and flexible slot allocation must be baked into future infrastructure. Alongside the main show, the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum and Women in Aviation Middle East Conference are running sessions on digital identity, sustainable fuel logistics and gender diversity in airport management. Collectively, the events reinforce Dubai’s ambition to remain a top expatriate and business-travel hub even as it prepares for a post-DXB era.
