Prince Edward Island Holds Second October PNP Draw, Issues 163 Invitations
The smallest Canadian province is punching above its weight this month. Prince Edward Island’s Office of Immigration confirmed on 19 October that it issued 163 invitations in an Expression-of-Interest (EOI) draw held 16 October under its Labour Impact and Express Entry streams. October is the first month in 2026 in which PEI has run two nomination rounds, bringing its year-to-date invitation total to 1,482 across 11 draws. The province again skipped its Business Work-Permit Entrepreneur stream, reflecting a strategic focus on filling acute skill gaps in health care, trades and manufacturing. Candidates selected under the Express Entry stream receive an automatic 600 CRS points, effectively guaranteeing a federal ITA in the next round – a boon for employers unable to secure LMIAs. PEI does not publish a minimum EOI score, but historical data show that applicants with a full-time local job offer, strong language scores and at least one year of related work experience enjoy the highest selection rates. For mobility teams, the draw underlines the need to match foreign recruits with genuine, PEI-based employers well before filing an EOI. The island’s aggressive end-of-year cadence likely signals an effort to use its remaining 2026 nomination allocation before Ottawa finalises 2027 targets. Employers in Atlantic Canada should note that PEI nominations come with an obligation for the candidate to reside and work in the province; moving staff elsewhere before landing can jeopardise permanent residence. Processing times remain among the fastest in the country – currently six weeks from complete application to nomination – making PEI an attractive, if niche, option for global-mobility planners with operations in Charlottetown or Summerside.
