High-speed corridor works between Amsterdam, Brussels and London slow cross-border services this weekend
International rail travellers encountered extended journey times on 13–14 June 2026 as maintenance on the Dutch HSL-South line cascaded into the core high-speed corridor that links Amsterdam, Brussels-Midi and London-St Pancras. The engineering notice, published by independent tracker RijdendeTreinen, shows reduced line capacity from 05:00 Saturday until 23:59 Sunday, forcing Eurostar and Thalys to share conventional tracks north of Rotterdam and limiting the hourly Brussels–Amsterdam frequency. Although the works take place in the Netherlands, the knock-on effect for Belgium is significant: southbound trains are arriving in Brussels up to 25 minutes late, affecting onward connections to Brussels Airport and SNCB domestic services. Eurostar has activated its ‘Plan-B’ ticketing policy, allowing fee-free changes for passengers booked on affected services across the weekend. Belgian tour operators say the disruption is a timely reminder that the Benelux-UK corridor remains sensitive to maintenance bottlenecks just weeks before the expected July leisure peak. Corporates routing assignees onto Monday-morning flights from Amsterdam or London via Brussels are advised to shift travel to Monday evening or to use the slower but more reliable InterCity service to Antwerp with a domestic connection. In the medium term, the incident strengthens calls from Belgian business lobbies for a dedicated overtaking track south of Breda, which would insulate Brussels-bound traffic from Dutch works. Talks between Infrabel and ProRail on a joint investment package are scheduled for the autumn.
