On 29 July 2026 the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) issued an urgent notice that it has refreshed all master-data packages used by the e-dec electronic customs-declaration system. The update covers country-codes, tariff master data, permit-item details and postal-code tables for both import and export flows. e-dec is the backbone for more than 98 % of commercial goods declarations filed at Swiss borders and airports, and it is widely embedded in logistics providers’ and multinationals’ ERP systems. The customs authority stated that declaration software connecting to e-dec must load the new datasets before 1 August 2026 to avoid validation errors. Failure to do so could result in rejected declarations, border delays and potential administrative fines. Unlike earlier minor refreshes, the 2026-07 release includes changes linked to the EU’s Combined Nomenclature update and new sanctions measures, which means HS-codes for hundreds of products—and their duty rates—have shifted. For corporate mobility teams this matters because household-goods shipments, product samples and company equipment entering or leaving Switzerland all require an e-dec reference number. Relocation providers and in-house trade-compliance units should therefore coordinate with freight forwarders to ensure that pre-lodged declarations (particularly for moves scheduled around the Swiss National Day weekend) are re-validated. The BAZG also reminded declarants that the legacy ‘QuickZoll’ mobile app for private travellers draws its tariff data from the same repository; an app update will roll out automatically over the next 48 hours. Looking ahead, the customs office plans to migrate e-dec to the new “Passar” platform in early 2028, bringing Switzerland into full alignment with the EU’s Union Customs Code data model. Yesterday’s master-data refresh is billed as the last major structural change before that migration. Companies that regularly relocate staff or ship tools across the border should budget for IT remediation and additional broker training in 2027. Action items: (1) ask your customs broker or ERP vendor to confirm that the 29-July master-data package has been imported; (2) for expatriate household moves slated for early August, reprint SAD/IM-A documents with the updated HS codes; (3) alert travelling employees to update the QuickZoll app so that personal duty allowances are calculated correctly.
