German officials fear that the episode could trigger renewed overland movements towards Germany once migrants receive temporary papers in Spain. Interior-ministry sources told public broadcaster ARD that Germany is ready to provide Frontex with additional technical staff and mobile fingerprinting kits if requested. The Ceuta crisis comes as Germany is already under pressure from the European Commission to phase out the internal land-border checks it has maintained along the Austrian frontier since 2024. Berlin argues that the new situation justifies keeping the controls in place. Migration NGOs criticised the letter, saying it focuses on deterrence while ignoring reception capacity and legal-migration channels. Corporate-mobility managers, however, welcomed the prospect of a coordinated EU position, noting that fragmented border reactions after previous crises caused unpredictable delays for business travellers transiting the single market. Practical takeaway: companies sending staff to or through southern Spain should monitor the timing of the expected ministerial videoconference and any follow-on Council conclusions. New carrier-responsibility rules or advance passenger-information requirements could be adopted swiftly and would apply equally to German business travellers returning via Madrid or Málaga.
