The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy has taken the national CY Login platform offline from 17:00 on Friday, 25 September until 18:00 on Saturday, 26 September 2026 for a major systems upgrade. During the 25-hour maintenance window, every digital service that relies on CY Login—including online residence-permit renewals, appointment scheduling, payment of application fees and real-time status checks—has been suspended. Although the shutdown was announced only 48 hours in advance through a series of government notices, it coincides with one of the busiest periods for immigration processing, with many foreign workers and students rushing to renew documentation before the end of the month. Corporate mobility managers have been advised to reschedule time-sensitive filings or submit hard-copy applications at district Aliens & Immigration Units, where longer queues are already being reported. Officials say the upgrade will introduce single sign-on and multi-factor authentication across all migration-related portals, paving the way for a fully paperless residence-permit workflow later this year. The overhaul is also expected to integrate CY Notify for SMS/email alerts and CY Pay for in-platform fee settlement—two features long demanded by employers that handle large volumes of third-country national (TCN) transfers. For the wider expatriate community, the downtime underscores Cyprus’ accelerating push to digitise public services ahead of its anticipated accession to the Schengen Area in 2027. While the interruption is short-lived, mobility stakeholders are reminding assignees to carry physical proof of status when travelling domestically this weekend, as police and airport officials will be unable to verify permits electronically until the system is restored.
