Strike picture: no new walk-outs today but major airline action looms
Two independent monitoring tools paint a contrasting picture of labour unrest this Wednesday. The crowd-sourced site IsItAStrike reports a rare strike-free day nationwide—good news for travellers weary of repeated industrial action in 2026. Yet Strike Tracker’s live dashboard reminds users that an unlimited CGT-RATP stoppage launched on 28 September is still legally in force, albeit with dwindling participation, and that fresh turbulence is only days away. Air Corsica pilots, backed by SNPL and SPAC unions, plan a week-long walk-out from 9 October, threatening island connectivity and French domestic feeder links. More significantly for corporate mobility teams, five national flight-crew unions (SNPL, UNSA-PNC, SNPNC-FO, SNGAF and UNAC) have coordinated a joint strike notice covering Air France, Transavia, Corsair and several charter operators from 17 to 21 October. Although French law guarantees a minimum “protected service” on public transport and obliges airlines to notify passengers 48 hours in advance, the clustered dates raise a real risk of cascading delays: Air France and Transavia share crews and aircraft, meaning that positioning flights could be caught in the cross-fire. Travel managers are therefore urged to review mid-October itineraries, activate contingency budgets for rail or road substitution on short-haul routes, and remind employees that French compensation rules differ by mode—EU261 applies to flights, while domestic rail refunds are capped at 50 % when a skeleton timetable is offered. The absence of a strike today should not breed complacency; rather, it offers a narrow window to re-book or re-route before capacities tighten once industrial notices crystallise.
