The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) quietly published its latest employment-permit processing table on 8 October 2026. The update shows that Critical Skills Employment Permit (CSEP) applications lodged on 1 October are already on the examiner’s desk, while fresh Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) permits dated 5 October are also being reviewed. By contrast, only 2 September applications are being opened for new General Employment Permits and late-August files for other categories. The accelerated CSEP and ICT timelines will be welcomed by multinationals in Ireland’s tech, pharma and financial-services clusters, which rely heavily on these routes to deploy senior staff. Over the summer the DETE redirected case-workers to shortage-skills streams and introduced a triage dashboard so that trusted partners can flag urgent projects. Employers report that average CSEP handling times have fallen from nine to fewer than four weeks since July. Immigration advisers nevertheless warn that renewal and review queues remain lengthy. ICT renewals are still at 20 July, and appeals have moved only to late April. Companies planning talent moves in Q4 should therefore build contingency time into travel dates and be ready to file comprehensive, “decision-ready” applications. The figures also give an early glimpse of demand ahead of the higher salary thresholds due on 1 March 2027. Advisers expect a spike in filings before year-end as firms try to lock-in permits under the current €34,000 CSEP floor. HR teams are urged to audit offer letters now and to brief candidates on likely biometrics and IRP appointment lead-times once they arrive in Dublin. For global-mobility managers the headline is clear: the bottleneck in Ireland’s most business-critical permit streams is finally easing, but less urgent categories still face summer-level delays. Pro-active document gathering and early filing remain the best defence against project slippage.
