The Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) Support Service is ramping up pre-departure assistance with a Microsoft Teams webinar at 1:30 pm AEST on 16 July. The one-hour session, limited to 70 participants from Fiji and other eligible Pacific nations, covers résumé preparation, Australian workplace culture, Fair Work rules and how to explain PEV status to prospective employers. Unlike Australia’s skilled-migration streams, the PEV is lottery-based: up to 3,000 Pacific nationals and their families can obtain permanent residency each year. Successful applicants must lodge a job offer alongside their visa paperwork—a requirement that has proven challenging for candidates unfamiliar with Australian recruitment norms. Government officials say employment-readiness sessions are essential to ensure newcomers integrate quickly and avoid under-employment. Employers in regional agribusiness, aged care and construction are encouraged to join future webinars on 23 and 30 July to present vacancies directly to visa holders. For HR teams, the PEV represents a new talent pipeline with permanent-residency security from day one, reducing the administrative burden associated with temporary-skill visas. However, companies must still meet standard Fair Work minimums and provide relocation support consistent with their broader mobility policies. Migration advisers note that the PEV ballot for 2026-27 closes on 29 July. Businesses seeking culturally diverse hires are urged to register with the Employment Support Service to gain early access to candidate profiles.
