Once the measure is published in the Royal Gazette—expected within the next two weeks—Indian passport-holders will be able to enter Thailand without paying the THB 2,000 VOA fee or waiting in long on-arrival queues, provided their stay does not exceed 30 days. The move replaces Bangkok’s pandemic-era 60-day visa-free policy, which was temporarily scrapped in May amid security concerns. Under the new ‘one country, one entry category’ model, 59 nationalities (including India) receive 30-day visa-free access, 6 get 15 days, and the rest continue on VOA. Thai authorities say the system simplifies screening, supports pre-departure digital risk assessment via the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) and should speed up airport processing during the upcoming festive season when Indian arrivals typically spike. For Indian tour operators, airlines and MICE organisers, the cost-savings (about US$55 per traveller) are significant. TAT data show that the average Indian party size is 3.1 travellers who spend 46,000 baht each; removing the VOA fee could channel an extra US$40 million into the Thai economy in the fourth quarter alone. Corporates running regional conferences in Bangkok or Phuket will also benefit from simplified invitation-letter logistics. Travellers must still hold proof of onward travel and may be asked to show funds of at least THB 20,000 per person—requirements Thai immigration reiterated after a spate of social-media complaints about denied entry. Mobility managers should update employee-travel checklists, removing the VOA-fee reimbursement line and ensuring that TDAC pre-registration is completed at least 72 hours before departure. Indian citizens wishing to stay longer than 30 days, take up employment or convert to other visa categories (e.g., SMART Visa for tech talent) must still apply at a Thai consulate before travel. The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi is expected to issue implementation details once the Gazette notice appears.
