Sponsor-licence register tops 130,000 employers as new platforms enhance searchability
Specialist data site Hunt UK Visa Sponsors reports that the Home Office register of licensed work-visa sponsors now lists 130,487 active organisations—up 13 percent year-on-year—after its latest daily sync on 21 July. The database covers Skilled Worker, Health & Care Worker and other sponsored routes and is the legal backbone of employer-driven migration to the UK. Tech start-ups have quickly moved to commercialise the open data. Hunt UK’s revamped interface adds filters for hiring activity and Companies House status, while rival portals such as MyVisaJobs and GradSponsor target specific audiences, from international graduates to care-sector recruiters. The trend reflects heightened demand for verified sponsorship information following last April’s salary-threshold rise to £41,700. For global mobility teams the richer datasets enable faster compliance checks when transferring staff or selecting third-party suppliers. Talent-acquisition heads say the ability to benchmark competitors’ visa volumes helps with workforce-planning and board reporting on diversity metrics. Immigration lawyers, meanwhile, warn that visibility cuts both ways: dormant sponsors may face tougher scrutiny if licence usage appears low or if they fall behind on reporting duties. The Home Office is expected to publish a consultation this autumn on automating parts of the licence renewal process, potentially linking real-time Companies House data to flag dissolved entities. Industry bodies are lobbying for an ‘early-warning’ dashboard to alert HR directors 90 days before expiry. With net migration politically charged, the swelling sponsor register will feed the debate ahead of the 2027 election. Analysts note that big outsourcers—TCS, Cognizant, Infosys—still dominate visa issuance, but growth is strongest among SMEs in the NHS supply chain and fintech.
