While the suspension is brief, it falls just ahead of China’s 1-7 October National Day holiday, compressing the window for securing visas before the Golden Week travel rush. Applicants who miss the 24 September cut-off may not secure appointments until 8 October, potentially derailing late-October project kick-offs. Companies with time-sensitive travel should consider contingency options such as port visas—available at 31 Chinese airports for urgent commercial activity—or leveraging the expanding visa-free entry lists for eligible passport holders. Mobility managers are also reminded that courier return of processed passports will not operate on the public holiday, adding further delay. The episode underscores the fragmented nature of China’s overseas visa network: each CVASC follows the holiday calendar of its host city as well as Chinese public holidays, creating a patchwork of closure dates. HR teams should maintain a centralised calendar and pre-book slots at least three weeks before major Asian holidays.
