Real-time data from queue-monitoring platform QSensor showed average passport-control wait times at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (CDG) peaking at 47 minutes during the morning wave of long-haul arrivals on 10 October 2026—the longest recorded so far this autumn. Border Police attributed the slowdown to a live test of the European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES), which is scheduled to go fully live in February 2027 but is already being trialled at major French airports. Under EES, non-EU travellers must submit four fingerprints and a biometric facial scan on first entry, a process that currently takes 90–120 seconds per passenger even when the self-service kiosks work smoothly. During today’s exercise only four of the airport’s 15 automated kiosks were available in Terminal 2E due to software upgrades, forcing officers to funnel passengers into manual booths. The trial coincided with the arrival of six wide-body flights from the United States, Canada and the Gulf, overwhelming the reduced-capacity checkpoints. Airlines reported that roughly 350 passengers missed connecting flights within the Schengen Area, and Air France issued a same-day rebooking waiver for transit passengers with layovers under two hours. For global-mobility managers, the incident is a dress rehearsal for next year’s permanent roll-out. Companies relocating staff to France should start factoring an extra hour into arrival schedules and consider booking overnight airport hotels for assignees with tight onward domestic connections. Frequent corporate travellers eligible for France’s PARAFE e-gate system are strongly encouraged to enrol now; Border Police confirmed that once EES is fully active, existing PARAFE members will undergo only a one-time biometric augmentation rather than the full registration process. A CDG spokesperson said additional kiosks will be installed by December and that fail-safe procedures—including dynamic queue re-routing and multilingual signage—will be refined after analysing this week’s data.
