Ad-hoc News service data released on 13 October 2026 show that Zurich Airport handled 3.13 million passengers in September, a 2.6 % increase on the same month last year. Transfer traffic – a proxy for Switzerland’s role as a connecting hub for multinational firms – grew even faster, up 6.4 % to 894,000 travellers. Aircraft movements rose 5.2 % to 25,661, although the average seat-load factor slipped slightly to 81.9 %. Analysts say the figures confirm that demand for premium-heavy long-haul routes has weathered higher airfares and geopolitical detours better than expected. Zurich Airport AG’s first-half results already showed revenue climbing 5 % to CHF 674 million and net profit of CHF 164 million, despite fuel-price headwinds at group airline SWISS. Barclays nevertheless cut its price target on the stock from CHF 215 to CHF 200 on 6 October, warning of mounting costs at the company’s Indian concession in Noida and slower retail spend per passenger. For mobility and HR managers the latest throughput data matter because they influence slot availability, lounge crowding and air-fare negotiation leverage for 2027. A stronger transfer market could also accelerate the airport’s push for an eased night-time curfew – an issue highlighted by SWISS’s chief earlier the same day. Travel buyers should therefore prepare for modest but ongoing capacity growth on core North-Atlantic and Asia-Pacific sectors out of Zurich next summer. The passenger rebound contrasts with the airport operator’s share price, which on 12 October traded just 1.8 % above its 52-week low of EUR 200. Market scepticism reflects concern about capital expenditure at international projects and the uncertain launch date of the EU’s ETIAS scheme, which could dent shopping revenue from non-EU visitors. Nevertheless, September’s numbers suggest that Switzerland continues to punch above its demographic weight in inter-continental connectivity – a positive signal for companies basing regional headquarters or high-value assignments in the country.
