After a five-month outage, IRCC’s Application Status Tracker is back online for most temporary-resident and Express Entry programmes. Applicants with an Acknowledgement of Receipt can now log in via GCKey or a Sign-In Partner to view real-time progress on eligibility, medicals, background checks and biometrics, each flagged as “not started,” “in progress,” “waiting on you,” or “completed.” Coverage spans study permits, work permits, visitor visas, family sponsorships and all economic classes managed through Express Entry. The tool refreshes nightly, and authorised representatives can be added with written consent. While overall status (“in progress”) remains broad, the section-level view lets applicants distinguish a genuine delay from a simple queue wait, reducing unnecessary webform queries and ATIP requests. For global mobility teams, the relaunch restores a crucial transparency channel. Programme managers should instruct relocating staff to check the tracker weekly and respond immediately to any “waiting on you” flags, which often signal missing documents or biometrics. Note that files remain invisible until IRCC issues the AOR; HR should set expectations accordingly, especially for new hires filing overseas who may wait several weeks before seeing movement.
