Geneva Airport (GVA) handled 1.40 million passengers in September 2026, according to data released on 15 October by industry intelligence provider CAPA. The figure is up 12 % on September 2025 and represents 94 % of the airport’s September 2019 pre-pandemic volume, confirming the Rhône-Alps hub’s near-full recovery. Long-haul segments grew fastest, buoyed by the first full autumn of thrice-weekly China Eastern flights to Shanghai and increased frequencies by SWISS and United Airlines to North America. European corporate demand also strengthened after the European Patent Organisation and several banking conferences returned to in-person formats in Geneva during the month. For mobility managers the rebound means wider seat availability but also renewed congestion at peak times. GVA advises travellers to arrive two hours before Schengen flights and three hours before intercontinental departures while passenger-security screening lines are being re-modelled ahead of the Entry-Exit System go-live in April 2027. The airport has accelerated self-service bag-drop installations and will pilot digital travel tokens with SWISS on selected routes to London City next quarter. Cargo throughput, by contrast, fell 3 % year-on-year as semiconductor consignments shifted to Brussels, illustrating Switzerland’s continued exposure to modal shifts on sensitive freight. Still, the 1.4 million-passenger milestone underscores that Geneva’s mix of multilateral organisations, wealth-management firms and winter-sports tourism is again driving international mobility to and from French-speaking Switzerland.
