Paris-Orly to Cancel or Move 3,000 Flights as Runway 4 Closes for Four-Month Upgrade
Aéroports de Paris (ADP) announced on 12 June that Runway 4 at Paris-Orly will shut from 10 August to 17 December 2026 for resurfacing and lighting upgrades. The closure forces the airport to cancel or redirect approximately 3,000 flights – the equivalent of 6 percent of Orly’s autumn schedule – to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle or regional airports. Low-cost carrier easyJet confirmed it has already started emailing passengers affected by cancellations between 10 August and 24 October, offering re-booking or refunds.

For travellers needing to update or obtain visas because of changed itineraries, VisaHQ can streamline the process. The agency’s online platform for France (https://www.visahq.com/france/) provides real-time guidance on Schengen rules, airport-specific endorsements, and can courier new documents directly to corporate offices, ensuring employees stay compliant despite last-minute schedule shifts.

Other airlines, including Transavia and Vueling, are finalising revised timetables with France’s civil aviation authority (DGAC). Slot allocations will be published in early July. For corporate travel planners, the disruption hits the heart of France’s domestic and medium-haul European network. Orly handles most flights to Toulouse, Nice, and Barcelona – popular routes for day-trip executives. Companies should audit Q3 and Q4 travel plans, checking whether meeting times align with new flight options out of CDG or alternate airports such as Beauvais and Nantes. ADP says the €120 million project will cut maintenance closures for a decade and reduce CO₂ emissions by installing LED approach lights. However, taxi-time bottlenecks may worsen at CDG as displaced traffic competes for slots during the busy late-summer holiday return. Travel-management firms recommend extending minimum connection times in booking tools and alerting employees whose visas are linked to specific arrival airports (a requirement in some Schengen long-stay procedures) to ensure that re-routed flights will not cause document discrepancies at border control.
