Kosovo Tightens 90-Day Rule and Passport Validity Checks for German Visitors
A 20 July information note embedded in Germany’s travel advice for Kosovo confirms that Pristina now strictly enforces the requirement for passports to be valid at least three months on entry and that stays beyond 90 days must be extended 15 days before expiry at the DCAM immigration department. Border police began applying the rule on 15 March but are escalating spot-checks during the summer influx. German nationals remain visa-exempt for trips under 90 days, yet travellers must still register with the police within three days of arrival – a step many business visitors overlook. Failure to produce the registration slip when exiting can lead to fines of up to €500 and, in repeated cases, a one-year re-entry ban. The advisory also highlights stricter Serbian border practices: passengers leaving Kosovo for Serbia must show proof that they originally entered Serbia on the same journey, otherwise they may be refused entry. This is crucial for shuttle drivers operating circular supply routes through the Western Balkans. Companies running long-term projects should update assignment letters and ensure employees file extension applications in person at the DCAM office in Pristina. Mobility teams should also warn staff not to carry fake euro coins: Kosovo authorities have stepped-up spot checks after a surge in counterfeit €2 pieces, frequently mistaken as German-minted.
