Delta Confirms All Flights Now Use Frankfurt’s Terminal 3 – New Processes for Corporate Travellers
Delta Air Lines quietly updated its advisory page at 00:16 ET on 20 July to confirm that every Delta-operated service to and from Frankfurt now departs Terminal 3 – the €4 billion facility that opened this spring. The move consolidates the carrier’s check-in, security and lounge footprint under one roof and ends the split-terminal model that had frustrated connecting passengers. Terminal 3 is physically separate from Terminals 1 and 2, requiring a 10-minute Sky Line ride or a 15-minute shuttle-bus transfer. Travellers with rail-air tickets should factor in the extra transfer time from the long-distance railway station beneath Terminal 1. Delta recommends arriving “well ahead of standard minimums” while the airport fine-tunes way-finding and automated border e-gates. For mobility managers the change simplifies VAT reclaim: all Delta flights now clear outbound customs at Pier H/J customs island, allowing bulk stamping. However, chauffeur companies must apply for new commercial‐vehicle permits because Terminal 3 uses a different landside access road with separate security barriers. The US carrier’s relocation also highlights a wider post-pandemic trend: non-Star Alliance airlines are flocking to Frankfurt’s south side to escape capacity caps in Terminals 1-2. Qatar Airways, JAL and Condor have announced similar moves, and Fraport projects 19 million annual passengers through the new building by 2027 – roughly a quarter of the airport’s forecast traffic. Companies that rely on air-freight hand-carry should update their ‘airside escort’ standing orders because staff badges issued for T1/T2 do not automatically open T3 doors.
