Beginning September 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is rolling out a new “Trusted Traveler” mobile application that consolidates features of the legacy Global Entry Mobile and Trusted Traveler Programs apps. Current users must download the new app today; the two older apps will cease functioning immediately. The single platform allows members of Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST to sign in with existing credentials, access mobile passport control, and manage profile data in one place. CBP says no changes are being made to program eligibility or interview scheduling, but the simplified interface should reduce traveler confusion and cut support calls. For mobility managers, the key takeaway is communication: expatriates and frequent travelers who rely on mobile arrival processing need to update devices before their next international trip. Companies may wish to push the new app via mobile-device-management systems and verify that employees’ credentials sync correctly. The launch is part of a broader digital-modernization push that includes the biometric walk-through lanes announced this week. Together, the initiatives signal CBP’s intent to move trusted-traveler interactions fully onto personal devices and automated hardware within the next year.
