According to the Border Guard, the group was detected by a mix of ground-sensor alerts and thermal-imaging drones introduced this summer under an EU Internal Security Fund project. After initial health checks in Lappeenranta, the adults were transferred to a reception centre in Joutseno, while child-protection authorities took custody of the minors. Preliminary investigations include suspected arrangement of illegal entry; officers believe a smuggling facilitator dropped the group near the canal after providing step-by-step GPS directions.
