Although queues fluctuate throughout the day, mid-afternoon traffic has become increasingly unpredictable since Belarus restricted freight flows in late 2025 and Poland responded with tighter security checks. Logistics firms say the latest spike is partly the result of a surge in post-harvest grain exports leaving Belarus, coupled with intensified document verification linked to the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES). For Polish exporters, the stand-still translates into higher transport costs, missed delivery windows and mounting demurrage fees. Small hauliers report resorting to alternative routes via Lithuania or Ukraine despite the extra kilometres, fuel expenses and their own congestion challenges. Business travellers driving company vehicles are likewise advised to carry multiple days’ supplies, ensure Schengen stay limits are in order and consider evening or very early-morning departures when average waits fall below one hour. Border authorities recommend that travellers monitor the official queue portal and the Granica mobile app, which pushed hourly updates throughout the day. The Ministry of the Interior says additional customs staff were redeployed on Sunday evening, but concedes that structural solutions—such as a second freight lane at Koroszczyn—will not come online until 2027. Until then, shippers may need to factor multi-day buffer times into contracts touching the Poland-Belarus corridor.
