Passenger throughput at Dublin Airport reached 3,344,356 in September 2026, according to newly-released figures from aviation news outlet Travel Extra. Although the total is 10.1 percent ahead of pre-pandemic levels, it breaks a run of 17 consecutive months of growth and points to a possible levelling-off after the record summer season. Airport operator DAA attributes the still-high volume to Ireland’s current presidency of the Council of the EU, which is bringing a steady stream of ministers, civil servants and lobbyists into the country for meetings through March 2027. The presidency cycle has already generated more than 185 days this year on which passenger numbers exceeded 100,000, underlining how political events can swell corporate and government travel demand. For mobility managers the figures are a mixed bag. On the positive side, DAA says it will keep security-queue targets of less than 20 minutes in both terminals through the winter, having hired more than 800 additional screeners since 2025. However, the slowing growth could delay the justification for the €5.6 billion capital investment programme that would add a third terminal and relieve chronic gate scarcity for early-morning transatlantic departures favored by business travellers. Capacity constraints already translate into higher fares and reduced schedule flexibility, and many multinationals base regional expat staff in Dublin precisely because of the airport’s wide European and US network. HR leaders should therefore watch closely whether the Irish Aviation Authority approves DAA’s requested passenger-charge hike to a maximum of €13 by 2031, a cost that would ultimately feed into travel budgets. In the near term, travel teams should brief assignees that load factors remain high, especially around rotating EU meetings. Advising travellers to arrive at least three hours before departure and to pre-book fast-track security lanes where possible will help maintain on-time performance during the presidency peak.
