The 25th edition of Airport Show wrapped up at Dubai World Trade Centre on 14 October with a clear message: capacity gains will come from data, not bricks and mortar. Speakers at the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum highlighted Dubai’s rollout of artificial-intelligence security scanners, single-token biometrics and off-airport baggage drop as case studies that can triple passenger throughput without new terminals. Dubai Police told delegates that advanced screening installed at DXB in August now lets travellers keep laptops and liquids in their bags, while predictive analytics forecast passenger surges 15 minutes at a time so staffing can be redeployed proactively. Ninety-eight per cent of passengers currently clear security in under five minutes, according to the force. Ground-handler dnata detailed its ‘Check-in Anywhere’ service: teams collect luggage from homes or offices, seal it with electronic tags and deliver it straight to the hold, allowing travellers to bypass airport counters entirely. Dubai Airports said the next milestone is Baggage Collaborative Decision-Making (B-CDM), which will link tag data to aircraft weight-and-balance systems—cutting delays and fuel burn. For global-mobility teams, the innovations promise shorter dwell times and smoother border crossings for assignees transiting through the UAE. Programmes such as single-token biometrics also pave the way for integration with immigration e-gates, potentially reducing visa-on-arrival processing. Vendors urged corporates to enrol frequent flyers early to maximise benefits. Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, eyeing three million passengers by 2030, said it will embed similar contactless systems in a new terminal and private-aviation centre, illustrating how smaller UAE gateways are following DXB’s technology lead.
