Airport Show 2026 closes in Dubai, puts AI and biometrics at the centre of GCC passenger experience
The 25th Dubai Airport Show wrapped up on 14 October having drawn more than 3,000 delegates and 150 exhibitors to debate the next wave of airport expansion across the Gulf. Opened by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the event showcased artificial-intelligence decision engines, single-token biometrics, digital-twin models and baggage collaborative decision making as key enablers for airports that are rapidly outgrowing pre-pandemic forecasts. Dubai Airports’ COO Majed Al Joker told the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum that passengers “experience their journey as one continuous process”, pressing operators to knit security, immigration, baggage and air-traffic flows into a single data layer. Talal Al Hammadi of Dubai Air Navigation Services warned that AI is now evolving faster than many legacy operational structures, making agile regulation and cross-border data-sharing essential. On the exhibition floor, GDRFA-Dubai demonstrated its 12-second ‘Click and Travel’ mobile passport-control carts, while dnata highlighted its citywide ‘Check-in Anywhere’ service. Memorandums of understanding were inked between Dubai Airports and Vanderlande for automated baggage-handling trials and between Fujairah International Airport and Italy’s ENAV for remote-tower services. For multinationals the messages were clear: GCC hubs will continue pouring capital into tech that shortens immigration queues and leverages passenger biometrics across multiple checkpoints. Travel managers should expect more single-token trials, stricter facial-recognition mandates and potential data-localisation clauses as regional privacy laws catch up. The organiser RX said planning for the 2027 edition is already under way, signalling that airport modernisation—and the regulatory frameworks that underpin global mobility—will remain high on the regional agenda.
