Canada invites 2,500 Canadian-experience candidates in largest Express Entry draw since June
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) surprised the immigration bar on 15 October 2026 by issuing 2,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a Canadian Experience Class (CEC)–only Express Entry round. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score crept up one point to 519 compared with the previous CEC draw on 29 September, but the size of the round jumped 25 %, signalling that Ottawa is once again leaning on the pool of skilled workers who are already living and working in Canada. The bigger draw arrives two weeks before the government is due to table the 2027-2029 Immigration Levels Plan. Consultants say the timing is deliberate: the department wants to reduce the inventory of strong CEC files before shifting attention to targeted category-based rounds in health care, trades and francophone occupations that have dominated 2026. So far this year, IRCC has issued 57,750 invitations across 61 rounds, but only 18 of those rounds have favoured the CEC. A higher invitation volume is welcome news for employers that recruited foreign talent during the pandemic and now want to convert temporary work‐permit holders into permanent residents. Candidates at, or near, the 519 cut-off have 60 days to submit a full e-application; most can expect adjudication within the six-month service standard, preserving work authorization under maintained status while they wait. Practical take-aways: employers should encourage eligible staff to enter the pool quickly, gather police certificates in advance and, where possible, front-load proof of work experience. Individuals whose CRS scores hover below the 510-point range should review the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) that routinely nominate in-Canada workers, as the next CEC draw could tighten again if IRCC pivots back to smaller, category-based rounds.
