The communiqué also confirms that the two countries will pilot a digital verification system for Certificates of Sponsorship, aimed at reducing document fraud and accelerating visa processing. Meanwhile, London and Abuja agreed to expand existing charter-flight arrangements for the return of Nigerian nationals with no legal right to remain in the UK—a politically sensitive point certain to attract media attention but unlikely to affect routine corporate transfers. Businesses with operations in both markets should watch for policy papers in early 2027 detailing how the talent partnership will work in practice. HR teams may soon be able to recruit Nigerian engineers or data scientists without the current delays in credential checks, improving lead times for secondments to the UK.
