Spanish airport operator Aena SME, S.A. reported its 2025 results on 25 February 2026, revealing a record 384.8 million passengers across its global network—321.6 million of them in Spain. Net profit jumped 10.5 percent to €2.14 billion, while EBITDA reached €3.79 billion with a 59.3 percent margin. The company forecasts passenger numbers in Spain will rise another 1.3 percent this year, to roughly 326 million. The data confirm that Spain’s aviation sector has not only recovered from the pandemic but is expanding to new highs, driven by leisure demand and a rebound in conference and corporate travel. International traffic accounted for nearly 72 percent of the total, underscoring Spain’s role as a mobility gateway between Europe, Latin America and North Africa. Business-class bookings grew faster than economy, mirroring corporate efforts to revive face-to-face meetings. For mobility planners the implications are twofold. First, slot congestion at hubs such as Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat will intensify, raising the risk of schedule changes that can derail tight expatriate relocations. Second, higher volumes bolster Aena’s bargaining power on airport charges; the operator hinted at “inflation-aligned adjustments”, costs that airlines may pass on to corporate clients. Aena’s board will propose a €1.09 per-share dividend at its 16 April shareholders’ meeting—a move welcomed by investors but one that consumer groups fear could curtail investment in passenger-experience projects linked to the upcoming EU Entry/Exit System. Aena insists planned biometric-gate installations remain on schedule for the 10 April 2026 EES launch. Looking ahead, the operator highlighted expansion of duty-free areas and premium lounges aimed at high-yield travellers. Global-mobility departments monitoring assignment budgets should therefore anticipate marginal airfare and ancillary-service inflation, particularly on intercontinental routes where capacity remains below pre-COVID peaks.
