Eurostar cancels peak-hour Paris–London train amid crowding at Gare du Nord
Eurostar passengers faced fresh disruption on Sunday, 4 October 2026, after the operator cancelled train 9019 from Paris-Gare du Nord to London St Pancras less than two hours before its scheduled 09:40 departure. Eurostar blamed “operational restrictions” linked to heavy crowding in the international departures zone of Gare du Nord, where passport control, security screening and the biometric EU Entry/Exit System (EES) funnel all non-Schengen passengers through a single bottleneck. The cancellation added to a difficult morning on the cross-Channel network. Live service alerts warned of knock-on delays to other Paris departures and of engineering works on the French network that reduced line capacity on the high-speed route to Lille and Calais. Separate alerts advised travellers that Brussels-Midi was “very busy”, meaning onward connections towards Amsterdam and Cologne were also running behind schedule. Business travellers were urged to check their bookings before heading to the station and to allow at least 60 minutes for pre-boarding formalities—longer than the usual 30 minutes for Standard and Standard Premier passengers—because last-minute gate closures were expected. Eurostar advised affected customers to rebook on later services or claim a full refund; it has waived change-of-ticket fees for journeys on 4–5 October. The incident highlights the fragile operating margins on the cross-Channel corridor at the start of the autumn conference season, when corporate demand traditionally spikes. Companies with employees shuttling between Paris and London should build extra slack into meeting schedules, warn mobility managers, especially while EES registration teething problems continue. Organisations that rely on same-day returns may need to consider overnight stays or remote participation to avoid missed appointments.
