EU-Funded Study to Upgrade Lublin–Dorohusk Rail Corridor and Border Procedures
Poland’s Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUTP) has commissioned engineering firm IDOM to deliver a PLN 10 million feasibility study aimed at modernising the Lublin-Jagodzin/Dorohusk railway corridor—one of the busiest freight and passenger links with Ukraine. Announced on 11 June 2026, the project forms part of the EU–Ukraine “Solidarity Lanes” initiative that keeps Ukrainian exports moving despite the Black Sea blockade. Key objectives include cutting travel times, increasing axle-load capacity and, crucially for mobility managers, streamlining border control processes such as identity checks, visa verification and customs clearance. CEUTP says biometric e-gates and joint Polish-Ukrainian inspection teams are under consideration, mirroring solutions already piloted at the Korczowa–Krakovets road crossing. For multinational manufacturers operating in eastern Poland—as well as NGOs shuttling staff between Warsaw and Lviv—the upgrade promises more predictable schedules and reduced layover costs. The study will be finalised by December 2026, with construction funding to be sought under the Connecting Europe Facility II. Authorities project that once the works are complete journey times between Lublin and Lviv could drop below four hours, creating a competitive alternative to air travel. Companies planning project assignments in the border region should factor in intermittent engineering surveys over the summer that may temporarily reroute some local trains. However, CEUTP confirms that at least one passenger track will remain open throughout the study phase, minimising disruption to daily commuters.
