Saudi Arabia’s start-up national carrier Riyadh Air has added Spain to its fledgling network, inaugurating a thrice-weekly seasonal service to Málaga on 14 July 2026 and a year-round four-weekly Riyadh–Madrid route that takes off today, 17 July. The debut makes Riyadh the first Gulf capital with non-stop links to Andalucía and provides an alternative to Emirates’ and Qatar Airways’ connections via Dubai and Doha. Spain’s tourism boards have courted Middle-Eastern markets for years, seeing high-spend Gulf visitors as a hedge against cyclical European demand. Andalusia expects up to 40,000 incremental arrivals this summer, while Madrid’s convention bureau is pitching Saudi corporates on incentive travel tied to the route. Operationally, the launch showcases Spanish tech: Alicante-based Ink Innovation supplies the cloud platform that manages Riyadh Air’s passenger processing across its network, allowing the airline to open new stations in weeks rather than months. For Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport—Spain’s fourth-busiest—Riyadh Air is the first carrier to fly direct to the Gulf since pandemic-era cuts. The schedule is business-traveller friendly. Flights depart Riyadh at 09:40 local, arriving in Madrid at 15:00, with the return leaving at 17:00 and landing at 00:40, enabling same-day onward connections. Economy returns start at €560, undercutting legacy rivals by 15 %, and the airline is offering corporate-contract discounts until 31 August. For mobility teams, the service simplifies assignments between Spain and Saudi Arabia’s NEOM and Vision 2030 giga-projects. Employees no longer need to transit Schengen capitals, cutting door-to-door times by up to five hours and avoiding extra transit-visa requirements for non-EU staff.
