Finnair posts stronger first-half results and signals capacity boost on Asian routes

Finnair published its half-year report for January–June 2026 on the morning of 22 July, showing solid progress in its post-pandemic and post-airspace-closure recovery. Total passenger revenue grew by 9 percent year-on-year to €1.29 billion, while operating profit reached €102 million compared with €67 million in the same period of 2025. CEO Topi Manner attributed the improvement to robust demand on Japan and South-Korea services after the partial reopening of Russian overflight corridors in April, plus continued strength in trans-Atlantic joint-venture traffic. From a global-mobility standpoint the most important announcement was Finnair’s decision to add a third daily rotation to Tokyo-Haneda from late October and to up-gauge its Seoul flight to an Airbus A350-1000 from early December, increasing premium-economy seating by 40 percent. The airline also confirmed that it will resume the Helsinki–Delhi route on 2 November after a three-year suspension, using fast-track Immigration e-gates recently installed at Indira Gandhi International Airport that are compatible with Finland’s Digital Travel Credentials pilot. Finnair said it expects full-year 2026 operating profit to land in the €220--240 million range “assuming no material escalation of the security situation in northern Europe”. However, management cautioned that crew costs will rise in the second half because of the new three-year collective agreement finalised with cabin-staff unions last month. For corporate-travel buyers increased Asia-Pacific capacity should mean better seat availability and potentially softer fares during the 2026/27 winter season. Mobility managers relocating staff from India or Japan to Finland will welcome the reinstated nonstop links, which eliminate time-consuming connections through Frankfurt or Doha and simplify visa-run logistics.
