In a July 27 transition-binder update, IRCC detailed milestones achieved under its multi-year Digital Platform Modernisation (DPM) initiative, which aims to replace the aging Global Case Management System with cloud-based case management, AI-enabled analytics and a unified client portal. Key achievements include the national pilot of a new online account—already used by more than 123,000 visitor-visa clients and 91,000 adult passport renewals—and the completion of a digital-visa pilot that issued verifiable electronic visas to Moroccan travellers. The department has also begun rolling out an integrated client-support platform that feeds directly into applicants’ accounts, reducing call-centre backlogs and improving data quality. Tranche 2 of the project will focus on back-end processing: a new Case Management Platform designed to automate routine files and a centralised Enterprise Data Platform that will underpin risk scoring. Express Entry is slated to be the first immigration programme migrated to the new architecture, starting with a redesigned expression-of-interest system in 2027. For employers, the DPM means faster work-permit issuance once automation and digital visas scale. It will also bring more robust analytics, allowing IRCC to tweak programme rules (for example, occupation-specific draws) in near real time. Mobility teams should anticipate new digital-document formats—including QR-coded visas and electronic passports—and verify that corporate travel dashboards can ingest machine-readable data from IRCC’s APIs when they become available.
