Analysts attribute the divergence to capacity constraints at Larnaca and Paphos airports during peak summer weeks. Travel managers are responding by encouraging staff to book further in advance, bundling accommodation into dynamic packages and, where feasible, routing via Athens or Istanbul to exploit lower fare buckets. The data also underline Cyprus’ dependence on aviation: 98 percent of international arrivals still come by air. Industry groups say airport charges remain 15 percent higher than at comparable Mediterranean gateways, a gap that could widen if planned terminal upgrades linked to Cyprus’ prospective Schengen entry are passed on to airlines. The transport ministry is reportedly studying incentive schemes to lure more off-season capacity, which could ease prices for business and leisure travellers alike. Meanwhile, consumer-rights groups remind passengers that EU Reg. 261 compensation rules apply equally in Cyprus; higher fares should at least buy reliable schedules.
