Speaking at the annual “Made for Germany” summit in Berlin on 30 September 2026, Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the launch of a one-stop digital talent portal designed to guide skilled workers through every step of relocation—from job search to residence permit. The platform, due to go live later this month, will integrate labour-market information, automatic Blue Card eligibility checks, and direct links to Germany’s new Auslandsportal online visa application system. Merz said the goal is to halve the time it takes a highly qualified professional to move to Germany and to “make bureaucracy invisible” for growth-stage companies that depend on foreign expertise. Central to the roadmap is a pilot e-visa that will allow selected applicants to store a cryptographically signed entry permit in a smartphone wallet. Border guards will scan the QR code against the EU’s Entry/Exit System, eliminating the need for a physical visa sticker. The interior and foreign ministries aim to expand the pilot to 10 consular posts—including Bangalore, São Paulo and Manila—by mid-2027. For corporate mobility teams, the announcement provides clarity on forthcoming digital processes and suggests that integration with HR information systems will soon be possible via APIs. However, lawyers caution that national ordinance changes are still required before the e-visa becomes legally equivalent to the current vignette. Until then, employers should continue to factor in courier times for passport stamping. Industry groups such as Bitkom and the German-Indian Business Council welcomed the portal but urged the government to ensure that foreign-language content and customer support are available from day one. The chancellor pledged an English-language help desk staffed 24/7 during the rollout phase and invited companies to join a user-testing cohort starting in November.
