Czech Railways (ČD) has announced that from 11 October to 3 November 2026 only a single track will be available on the busy Prague–Říčany section of its S9 commuter corridor because of finishing works on a realignment linked to the Prague Ring Road construction. Several all-stops suburban trains will start or terminate at Praha-Uhříněves instead of continuing to Říčany or Strančice, while select express and rapid services will make exceptional stops to compensate. To maintain capacity during peak periods, ČD will add an extra coach to Sázava fast trains (R49) and deploy replacement bus line XS9 running every few minutes between Prague metro station Háje, key intermediate suburbs and Říčany Masarykovo náměstí. Travellers should expect an additional 5-10 minutes of delay in the work zone and check special timetables published on the railway and PID integrated-transport websites. The works mark the final shift of traffic back from a year-long temporary alignment to the original double-track main line, allowing Správa železnic (Railway Infrastructure Administration) to complete bridge and embankment upgrades required by the new motorway interchange. When full double-track operation resumes in early November, line capacity will rise by an estimated 15 %, paving the way for more frequent expresses to Benešov and regional stopping patterns in the 2027 timetable. For commuters—and for business travellers connecting to Prague Airport or the city’s long-distance rail hub—the interim disruption means longer door-to-door times and possible missed connections. Mobility managers should advise staff to include buffer time or to use alternative routes via Prague hlavní nádraží and Benešov fast trains. PID tickets and national OneTicket passes will be accepted on the substitute buses.
