2,600 trucks still stuck as Polish carrier protests drag on at three crossings
Despite selective legal wins for local officials, Polish hauliers and allied farmers maintained road-block protests at Rava-Ruska, Krakivets and Shehyni on 13 December, leaving more than 2,600 trucks idling on the Polish side, according to Ukraine’s Border Guard Service. The backlog includes pharmaceuticals, auto parts and Christmas retail stock.

Protesters want the EU to reinstate permit quotas for Ukrainian carriers, arguing that quota-free access introduced in 2022 lets cheaper Ukrainian drivers undercut Polish operators. Talks in Warsaw and Brussels have stalled, and demonstrators say they are ready “to rotate crews and stay for Christmas.”

Transit times between Warsaw and Lviv have ballooned from one day to four, pushing manufacturers to reroute via Slovakia or air-freight emergency parts through Rzeszów. HR managers moving technicians should budget extra travel days and ensure drivers carry winter gear for multi-day waits. The government is considering a fast lane for perishables, but no breakthrough is in sight.
