Poland & Ukraine launch ‘empty-truck lane’ to cut queues at Uhryniv–Dołhobyczów
Warsaw and Kyiv have agreed to pilot a dedicated lane for empty heavy vehicles exiting Ukraine via the Uhryniv–Dołhobyczów crossing. The channel, which handles around 100 rigs per day and waives the controversial e-queue registration, targets the worst congestion since autumn protests began.

Tankers are explicitly included, allowing Ukrainian exporters to return cisterns after delivering fuel and chemicals. Authorities expect overall queue lengths at neighbouring loaded-truck lanes to fall by up to 15 % in the first week, freeing capacity at Rava-Ruska and Yahodyn. The pilot will run for one month but could be extended or replicated at other posts if performance targets are met.

For fleet managers, the new lane reduces driver idle time and equipment lease costs. Businesses with circular flows—raw materials into Ukraine, finished goods back to the EU—should recalibrate route plans immediately. Drivers still need valid Polish transit visas; employers are urged to centralise bulk applications and monitor real-time slot availability to exploit the new option.
