To coincide with the EU Migration Pact’s commencement, Ireland’s International Protection Office (IPO) has launched a dedicated web portal for applicants who lodged claims before 12 June 2026. The site consolidates guidance on interview stages, EU Dublin Regulation transfers, appeals and voluntary return. Applicants can now track their case status, renew Temporary Residence Certificates online and access translated booklets in 20 languages. The IPO hopes that self-service functionality will reduce call-centre volumes and free up officers for substantive decisions. For employers, the portal offers a clearer snapshot of an employee’s case trajectory, making it easier to plan contract renewals or payroll tax codes tied to work-permission validity. HR teams should encourage staff to register an email address with the IPO to receive automatic alerts of interview dates or documentation requests. Law firms welcome the transparency but warn that data privacy consents may not cover third-party access; employers should obtain written permission before checking an employee’s portal account. The IPO says GDPR compliance was built in and that only the applicant can authorise representative access via two-factor authentication. Because post-12 June applicants will use a different portal, mobility advisers must verify the correct link when onboarding new hires, especially as the two systems currently look similar.
