Paris-CDG announces terminal renumbering to simplify passenger way-finding
Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (CDG) revealed on 5 October 2026 that it will overhaul its terminal nomenclature on 16 March 2027, consolidating the current alphabet-suffix system (2E, 2F, etc.) into three simple zones: T1, T2 and T3. Boarding gates will also adopt a clearer alphanumeric format such as “T2 – A22”. Tickets issued from 6 October 2026 for travel after the switchover will already display the new codes. ADP Group, the airport operator, says the change will make navigation easier for the 72 million annual passengers expected in 2027, including the surge linked to the Rugby World Cup qualifiers and Paris’s ongoing attractiveness as a regional hub. Signage, mobile-app maps and FIDS screens will be updated in phases to minimise confusion. For corporate travel planners the key takeaway is to verify that booking and duty-of-care platforms map the new codes correctly; mis-syncs could cause ground-transfer errors for chauffeured services and group travel. Airlines will need to re-programme DCS settings; Air France and KLM have already confirmed compliance testing. The renumbering comes as CDG readies for the full roll-out of the EU Entry/Exit System, prompting broader investments in passenger-flow analytics and biometric e-gates. ADP insists no changes are planned for car parks, check-in rows or baggage belts, but warns that some airside corridors may close temporarily during overnight signage replacement in February. While the renaming exercise seems cosmetic, way-finding issues are the second-biggest source of negative passenger feedback at CDG after security wait times. Simpler terminal labels should reduce missed-connection incidents—a frequent pain-point for long-haul business travellers connecting to French regions via Terminal 2F.
