Peach Aviation offers fee-free changes on China routes as Typhoon 30 looms
Low-cost carrier Peach Aviation activated its “Special Handling of Tickets” policy at 15:40 JST on 20 October for all flights potentially affected by Typhoon No. 30—the Japanese designation for Super Typhoon “Qiangpi.” The waiver applies to bookings to or from Shanghai (PVG), Nanjing (NKG) and Ningbo (NGB) for travel between 21 and 23 October, covering some of the carrier’s highest-demand China services. Passengers holding any fare class—including non-refundable “Simple Peach” tickets—may change their flight once or request a full refund without penalty, regardless of whether the flight is ultimately cancelled. Changes can be made online, via call-centre or WeChat mini-program; however, Peach warns that high call volumes may lengthen wait times and urges customers to self-process where possible. The proactive move stands out among regional LCCs, some of which wait until the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau issues formal slot restrictions before granting waivers. Travel-management companies say Peach’s early notice allows multinational firms to redeploy staff via Kansai or postpone non-essential trips, reducing last-minute accommodation costs in Osaka. While Japan is outside the path of the projected landfall, the storm’s outer bands are expected to bring crosswinds to Kansai and Kobe airports, and air-traffic managers fear knock-on delays from Chinese ATC flow controls. Travellers connecting onwards to domestic Chinese points should therefore allow longer layovers and verify that local airports remain open. Peach will post rolling updates on its multilingual flight-status portal and via X (formerly Twitter). Customers who rebook must complete travel within 30 days of the original sector; otherwise the refund option remains valid for five years under Japan’s aviation consumer-protection rules.
