Eurostar Alerts Paris-Bound Passengers to Delays and Cancellations Until 31 January
Eurostar’s live traffic portal flashed multiple red alerts on 17 January, warning of train cancellations and rolling delays on the Paris–London–Amsterdam corridor that are expected to last through 31 January. Engineering works on the Dutch high-speed line, a Paris-Gare-du-Nord signalling upgrade and knock-on congestion at Lille’s border-control platforms have cut available paths, forcing the carrier to trim its timetable and hold services for up to an hour.

The rail operator carried 11 million passengers in 2025, with business travellers making up roughly 28 % of traffic. With winter storms disrupting European aviation, many corporate commuters had already shifted to rail; the new bottlenecks risk missed meetings and onward flight connections. Under Eurostar’s Conditions 10 and 11 passengers delayed more than 60 minutes may claim partial refunds or re-routes, but out-of-pocket hotel costs are reimbursed only when the company organises accommodation.

HR and mobility managers are being urged to pad itineraries by at least 90 minutes, book fully flexible fares and warn staff that the Franco-British “EES Lite” biometric pilot at Gare du Nord currently adds about four minutes per passenger—multiplying delay impacts when departures bunch. Relocation vendors moving pets or household goods via Eurotunnel freight services should secure overnight contingencies as LeShuttle slots are similarly compressed.

Network Rail and Infrabel works on the Belgian sector are due to finish on 6 February, after which Eurostar expects to restore its standard 17 daily Paris–London rotations. Until then, corporate travel policies may need temporary exceptions allowing premium-economy rail or higher-fare air substitutes on short notice.
