Business Finland’s ‘Work in Finland’ platform has published its autumn event calendar, starting with a free ‘Newcomer Information’ webinar on 25 September aimed at professionals considering relocation to the Helsinki capital region. The two-hour online session covers residence-permit pathways, Kela registration, and practical tips such as how to open a Finnish bank account before arrival. The restart comes as the government doubles down on talent-attraction goals set in its 2023 Roadmap for Work-Based Immigration, which targets a net inflow of 50,000 skilled workers per year by 2030. According to organisers, more than 600 people—mostly ICT and health-care specialists from India, Nigeria and the United States—have already signed up. Participants receive a checklist that aligns with the Finnish Immigration Service’s new electronic application flow launched this summer. Employers welcome the initiative. “The webinar demystifies everyday issues that often delay onboarding,” says Katri Paakkonen, Global Mobility Lead at a Helsinki gaming studio. She notes that questions on tax pre-payments and spouse work rights dominate Q&A sessions and that early clarity cuts assignment lead-times by weeks. The platform also advertises over 1,300 English-language vacancies and promotes a ‘Finland Works’ virtual job fair on 6 October. HR and mobility teams can register their vacancies for free; companies needing spotlight sessions pay a small sponsorship fee. Given Finland’s intensifying competition with Sweden and Germany for digital talent, expect more frequent newcomer briefings—useful links and slide decks are typically made public within 48 hours of each event.
