UK Visas & Immigration has released a substantial update to its ‘Immigration Status and Enforcement Action’ manual, with changes effective 14 September 2026. The revised ‘Cancellation and Curtailment of Permission’ chapter sets out a fast-track process for revoking the visas of sponsored care workers when their employer’s sponsor licence is suspended or revoked. Key changes include automatic e-mail service of curtailment notices to visa holders using UKVI’s digital-status platform and a reduced 45-day grace period—down from 60 days—to find a new sponsor or depart the UK. The guidance also instructs enforcement teams to prioritise adult-social-care cases for removal where no alternative employment has been secured within that window. For care-sector employers, the update raises the stakes of compliance failures: any sponsor-licence breach could swiftly translate into staff shortages affecting patient ratios. Businesses should ensure that ‘key personnel’ details on the Sponsor Management System remain current and that change-of-ownership events are reported within 20 working days to avoid inadvertent suspension. From a mobility standpoint, HR teams placing overseas carers in private homes or nursing facilities must now build in contingency funds for accelerated recruitment or agency cover, as employees could lose their right to work with little notice. Employers elsewhere should note that the curtailment template is likely to be replicated across other sponsorship routes in future rule changes.
