Austrian Airlines (AUA) will keep its peak-season network running well beyond the official end of the summer timetable. In a statement released on 24 September 2026, the Lufthansa-Group carrier confirmed that it is **adding more than 100 supplementary services between 24 and 31 October**, when Austria’s nine federal states simultaneously take their autumn break. The move comes on the back of record leisure demand and a corporate market that has largely returned to pre-pandemic volumes. Leisure hot-spots top the list of beneficiaries. Spanish sun destinations alone account for 40 of the extra rotations, with Palma de Mallorca gaining 11 and Larnaka 13 additional frequencies. The airline will also extend seasonal routes to Ibiza, Alicante, Bilbao and Portugal’s Ponta Delgada, while Italian islands such as Olbia and Sicily’s Palermo remain on the map an extra week. Popular Greek gateways Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes, as well as Split, Dubrovnik, Nice and Valencia, see either capacity upgrades or later end-dates. For corporate travellers, the carrier is at pains to stress that key business hubs will remain well connected once the winter schedule kicks in on 25 October. Cities like London, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and Hamburg keep their high-frequency patterns, while long-haul capacity pivots toward Asia—Bangkok rises to double-daily in January and February, and the Mauritius and Malé services increase to up to seven weekly flights. To free wide-body aircraft, the North-Atlantic programme will be temporarily thinned, with Chicago, Boston and New York/JFK suspending for several weeks, though Newark and Washington continue uninterrupted. Travel-management companies say the extended summer network is a welcome hedge against capacity shortages that have pushed up fares on rival carriers. Employers with mobile workforces now have more nonstop options from Vienna, reducing connection risk and duty-of-care exposure. AUA is already loading the additional sectors in global distribution systems, allowing corporates to re-price autumn travel budgets and lock in seat inventory before dynamic pricing kicks in. According to industry analysts, the October boost also serves a strategic purpose. By flexing narrow-body capacity into leisure markets and redeploying wide-bodies toward Asia, AUA keeps aircraft utilisation high at a time of year that typically sees a lull. The airline will also gather data on late-season demand that could feed into 2027 network-planning, especially as European schools increasingly shift holidays to the shoulder season.
