Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) quietly updated its international traffic bulletin this morning to confirm that the EuroNight trains linking Zurich HB with Zagreb Glavni kolodvor will not run between the evenings of 25 September and 14 October. The overnight connection—popular with business travellers heading to the fast-growing Adriatic tech hubs—has been pulled because Slovenian Railways (SZ) is closing sections of the Ljubljana–Dobova corridor for major signalling and track renewal. Although the construction site lies more than 500 km from Switzerland, the works sever the only electrified night-train route between the Alpine republic and Croatia. SBB says replacement buses will not be offered because of the long distance involved and the complexity of customs arrangements at the Schengen external border. Travellers holding tickets for the affected dates can obtain full refunds, or re-book via alternative day-time services that route through Austria and Hungary—options that add at least six hours and two extra connections. For corporate mobility teams the outage comes at an awkward moment: last-minute quarter-end travel, and the Autumn trade-fair season in Zagreb and Ljubljana. Employers are being urged to alert staff and assignees, especially those moving personal effects by accompanied luggage. Global relocation providers with consolidated freight on the train’s baggage wagons will need to switch to road or air freight, incurring higher CO₂ footprints and costs. Looking ahead, SBB expects the service to resume on 15 October once the engineering possession in Slovenia is lifted. However, the operator warns that further weekend closures are planned in November on the Austrian Arlberg line, which could ripple through night-train timetables again. Mobility managers should therefore monitor SBB’s Europe-wide engineering updates and build extra lead-time into any assignment start dates that depend on rail transport.
