Late on 27 September 2026, British Columbia released details of its latest high-economic-impact Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, held on 24 September, in which 714 skilled workers were invited to apply for nomination. The round—British Columbia’s largest Innovate-aligned selection of the year—targeted two cohorts: 426 candidates with TEER 0–3 job offers paying at least CAD $105,000 per annum (equivalent to $52 per hour), and 288 candidates who scored 131 points or higher in the Skills Immigration registration system. For employers, the Innovate model rewards roles that combine high wages with strategic skills, making it particularly attractive for technology, clean-energy and life-sciences companies clustered in Vancouver and Victoria. Once nominated, candidates may apply for a federal Bridging Open Work Permit without waiting for a PR file number, thanks to a June 2026 federal pilot that accelerates transitions from temporary to permanent status under base PNP streams. British Columbia has now issued 3,974 Innovate invitations in 2026 and is on track to meet its 6,254 nomination allocation. The province’s proactive approach contrasts with Ontario’s still-pending Workforce Priority Stream and offers a clear pathway for companies willing to meet British Columbia’s salary benchmarks. Mobility leads should compare total-compensation packages across provinces to ensure that relocation proposals remain competitive while satisfying program thresholds. Candidates have 30 days to submit a complete nomination application. Given the tight timeline, employers should prepare employer-declaration forms, detailed job descriptions and proof of recruitment efforts well in advance. Submission of incomplete or inconsistent documents can lead to refusals, delaying onboarding and project timelines. The strong response to the Innovate wage component suggests that British Columbia will continue to lean on salary-based criteria in future rounds, incentivising businesses to invest in higher-paid, higher-skilled positions as a lever for talent attraction and retention.
