Leo Express unveils 2026 pan-European rail link from Ukrainian border to Frankfurt via Prague
Independent Czech operator Leo Express announced on 13 January that it will launch a new 1 300-km commercial passenger route on 25 June 2026 connecting the Polish-Ukrainian border town of Przemyśl with Kraków, Prague and Frankfurt Airport. Tickets are already on sale, positioning the service as a subsidy-free test case for the EU’s negotiated-access framework that encourages private competition on long-distance rails.(travelandtourworld.com)

The planned timetable offers through-services across four countries—Ukraine (via border station), Poland, Czechia and Germany—with Prague functioning as the central hub. Leo Express will deploy its low-floor Stadler Flirt units offering 5G Wi-Fi, Premium and Business classes, and onboard catering that targets both leisure travellers and corporate passengers.

For global-mobility stakeholders the link promises a viable alternative to short-haul flights on the busy Prague–Frankfurt and Kraków–Prague corridors. HR teams relocating Ukrainian or Polish talent to Czech and German offices will gain a single-ticket, overnight rail option that avoids airport security queues and potential weather-related flight cancellations—issues freshly highlighted by this week’s ice storm.

The route also underscores Prague’s growing role as a rail hub. Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka welcomed the announcement, noting that the government’s rail-modernisation programme now makes eight European capitals reachable from Prague without plane changes.

Leo Express says launch preparations—including crew training across four signalling systems and certification for Germany’s DB Netz—are on schedule. Final regulatory access paths should be confirmed by December 2025.
